Woodpeckers Peck
I found a similar wooden box made up of random twigs, odd shapes and colours. I have always wanted to paint woodpeckers again, so the combination of both images seemed to fit neatly together. I feel instinctively whether a composition works. The ferns are important here as they give a woodland effect and break up the darkness of the birds and the box. Like all living creatures, each bird is an individual.
I had no idea how popular the woodpecker is. The fact that you see and hear this wonderful bird seems very appealing. America, Norway and England are the three countries where I paint and each one is home to the woodpecker.
